FFA SAFE Benefits For Teachers
There are many benefits that a teacher and their school can gain by becoming involved with FFA SAFE. A few of these are listed below:
- Free GIS Software for your school which includes a site (lab) license for ArcView GIS site license that you can install at no cost in your computer labs.
- Free GPS equipment - Get a Garmin GPS 76s map for your school.
- Free geospatial technology training that can be applied towards Act 48 educational development credits: learn to use GIS and GPS software and equipment through free training offered by the Penn State Geospatial Technology Program, Land Analysis Lab

What you need to get started
There are two requirements to participate in this FFA program and gain access to free software and a GPS unit for your school:
- Demonstrate proficiency to teach the ArcMap based curriculum to students (participating in Penn State offered training or summer camps can fulfill this requirement)
- Agree to teach and utilize the FFA Farm SAFE curriculum and conduct farm safety mapping.
Computer Requirements
The computers in the lab at your school where you wish to install ArcView GIS need to meet some minimum requirements in order to run the GIS software. These requirements are highlighted here. Or, read the in-depth ESRI requirements for running ArcGIS 9.2 on Windows XP
Printer Requirements
An 11x17 color printer is recommended for this program although it is not absolutely necessary. Contact us for more information if you are interested in participating in this program however do not have access to a suitable printer.
Summer Camps & Training???
A series of regionally held teacher training workshops will be held to train instructors in the use of the FFA SAFE curriculum and associated geospatial technology. In addition summer camps will be held at Penn State University to familiarize FFA participants with the project.
